Fresh Start

The Fall '07 issue of Interweave Knits finally landed in my mailbox this week. Just in time to help fend off a serious case of Knitting Ennui. I needed something to replace the frogged Fair Isle.

I'm very taken with Ruthie Nussbaum's Minimalist Cardigan. It's not exactly the fall sweater I've had in mind, but it is calling my name. I think I have enough "Olive" Morehouse Farm Merino 2-Ply. This yarn is a lighter gauge than the one the pattern suggests, but I swatched and worked the numbers, and I think if I knit to the size larger than I want (43 1/2"), I'll end up with something which should work for me - 37"-38." I can't quite figure out how much ease I want for this, since it doesn't have closures, so I hope I'm on the right track.

I was a little bit hesitant to embark on a sweater that is almost entirely Moss Stitch, but so far so good. I'm enjoying the yarn and the pattern.

While the sun was shining this afternoon, I also snapped a progress shot of my Melon Stitch Scarf in Malabrigo Lace. It's about 15" long now (pre-blocked). I should probably have finished it before starting something new, but sometimes a girl has to do what a girl has to do. Hopefully both of these projects will be finished in time to fend off this winter's chill.

All that moss stitch was the reason the minimalist was not my first choice to start out of this issue. Oh she will get done but not at a time where I need quick knits :)

The melon scarf looks beautiful - I love the color you chose.

Love the melon stitch in Malabrigo lace. How wide is it going to be (if you can guess when its blocked)?

Oh Kathy,
the moss stitch looks beautiful -- what a pretty color! Now I want one. :)
The Malabrigo is looking gorgeous too. The two colors are very serene together ...

Your projects are working up beautifully! Next time you're road-tripping through Anchorage (I assume you had to drive through here on your way to Kenai), do send me an email or give me a call, as I'd love to get together, if just for a coffee (and few minutes to knit, of course).

I love your moss-stitch sweater -- the texture really adds to it.

Thanks for the well wishes about the wedding!

I have been oogling the pages of the minimalist cardigan myself. I do believe that I will start with the Counterpane pullover or the Cinnabar Pullover. Unfortunately, by the time I get through with one of those, the next issue will be out. So I will have to live vicariously through you. Are there any SnB or Sip&Stitch in Juneau? I will be down for a couple days in early October.

Ooh-ooh! Where's my magazine?! I just have to finish Molly's pinwheel sweater and then I need a new project...I was just sitting here feeling bored with my knitting. You have inspired me...I LOVE the scarf.

I hope all is well and you are feeling good.
